Immerging Technologies In Urine Testing

Times:2021-03-15 Source:COBIO Share

Analysis of urine is a widely used diagnostic tool that traditionally measures urine chemical compounds and also urine sediments. The urine testing needs a holistic approach to detect more metabolites in the urine leading to the application of metabolomics to urine for disease diagnostics. More research and development of urine testing have been underway such as Spectrometric methodologies such as Nucleic Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and mass spectrometry and other spectrometry. These methodologies are still not as highly developed in their applications to metabolomics. On the other hand, there has been a recent surge in chromatographic applications dedicated to characterizing the human urinary metabolites. While developments in the analysis of urine encompassing both classical approaches of urinalysis and metabolomics are covered, it must be emphasized that these approaches are not a replacement – they both have their uses and are complementary. However, such testing is now in research stage and may need extensive efforts to correlate the finding. New methodologies such as NMR may also may have high cost to it.

Urinalysis has a dynamic future. New technology for instrumentation, new biomarkers, and new appreciation for the importance of urinalysis in modern medicine are combining to bring the focus back to where laboratory testing started so long ago, while also bringing urinalysis into the 21st century.

Meanwhile, the classical and traditional method remain highly valuable tool for early diagnosis. The current automated technologies are fast, accurate and reliable.
